Sr. Joyce Rupp Speaking at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish

UPDATE: “We report with heavy hearts that the Leadership in THE LORD’S HOLY CHURCH bowed to pressure which was not coming from the Vatican and allowed these speakers to teach either the unsuspecting or the rebellious. Jesus said that if we loved Him we would keep His Commandments—and that we were able to know people by their fruit. What destruction has been caused by the obvious rebelliousness of our Leaders?
Please tape record every homily and scour the bulletin for traces of the Marxist Sal Alinksky infiltration which means to destroy the Church in America. A person cannot catch wellness like a person can catch a cold from another person—the reason the grocer goes through and throws away a rotting apple is because it can ruin the WHOLE bushel!

A ‘women’s retreat’ is being held Feb. 20th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Plano. The retreat is being given by Sr. Joyce Rupp. Based on prior knowledge of these retreats, it will essentially consist of Sr. Rupp lecturing a number of women for the better part of a day.

The retreat is sponsored by five north Dallas area parishes:

  • St. Mark in Plano
  • St. Elizabeth in Plano
  • St. Joseph in Richardson
  • Our Lady of Angels in Allen
  • Prince of Peace in Plano

Why is this a problem? Why would I care that a female roman catholic religious is speaking at a catholic parish in Plano? Well, unfortunately, there are many religious, male and female, whose communion with the Church, whose thoughts and practices being in accord with Church teaching, is doubtful at best. Sr. Donna Quinn of the Sinsinawa Dominicans in Chicago is one.

Another is Sr. Joan Chittister. There is strong evidence that Sr. Rupp, while not as at odds with core Church doctrine as Sr.’s Chittister and Quinn (and Fr. Reese, and Fr. Drinan), is at best a pretty poor choice for a Catholic speaker in the Dallas Diocese, and at worst poses a grave threat to the souls of all those who attend this ‘retreat.’

On her own website, Sr. Rupp makes plain that she is very friendly with New Age beliefs. She constantly refers to God in the feminine with the name of ‘Sophia,’ ostensibly a ‘goddess of wisdom,’ she incorporates eastern religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism into much of her ‘theology,’ and she gives strong hints that she has been involved in, or is involved in, active homosexual relationships. The Church counsels that New Age practices, such as astrology, power crystals, dreamcatchers, and the like, pose a mortal threat to one’s soul. New Age beliefs are fundamentally self-centered, drawing on supposed mystical powers of the universe to make one have improved self-esteem, or to gain insight into the future, or to understand and contact those in ‘other dimensions.’ Much New Age belief is strongly associated with the work of Carl Jung, an Austrian psychologist who was a strong proponent of the interpretation of dreams, while at the same time a vociferous opponent of the Church. Sr. Rupp has a master’s degree in Jungian psychology, in addition to a degree from the ‘leading center of New Age’ study.

Everyone who is an orthodox Catholic (one that adheres to Church teaching) should be outraged by this!

Our Bishop is allowing this woman to come into his diocese and ’steal’ his sheep away for the devil. I know that sounds strong, but if we are not walking in the Light and Truth, we are in darkness, lies and death.

Those who are in the know and do nothing ARE ACCOUNTABLE! Ezekiel 33:7-9

This is not about judging others or a differenc in opinion as some may try to accuse. It is about preaching a gospel other than the Gospel of Jesus!

The Bible says there would be wolves in sheep’s clothing and I believe this wolf has been unmasked, and yet too many shepherds are looking away and allowing their sheep to get swallowed up.

It’s time for good Catholics to stand up for their faith and quit worrying about what others will think if they make a fuss. This is evil no matter how much sweetness and nicey nice, flowery ‘lovely’ sounding words are used to conceal the truth that this woman is not promoting authentic Catholic teachings or even generic Christian teachings.

    1. Why in the world would these parishes pay someone who does not teach what is in the Catechism when there are so many awesome Catholic speakers who do???
    2. The Silence of the Shepherds in this case is frightening to me.

There is much to be disturbed about in Sr. Rupp’s teachings. She is a very confused person who needs our prayers and compassion, but not our minds. Her words suggest that she has embraced the lies of the evil one. She pridefully proclaims feminism, engages in New Age practices, exhaults lesbianism, and defines the Catholic Church as “oppresive to women”. Clearly, her teachings are not in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Her words: “Some of my good friends who are men respect the feminine and feel as badly as I do about how women have been treated by the institutional church.”…”I am very disappointed with the recent church document on women. I am saddened because it blames feminists for the lethal effects in the structure of the family. Once again women are being blamed for society’s failures. I am offended by the way this document pushes the power issue off onto women when the official church has, time and again, used power abusively to silence those longing for dialogue and has threatened into conformity those who date to question doctrinal ultimatums.

Power rightly exercised can be healthy and helpful. Rome agrees, but only so long as this power is in the hands of men. When women begin to assert their rights and seek to have their God-given potential and gifts fully acknowledged and accepted for service in the church, they are not only denied this right but are written off as adversaries, reactionaries, and power-seekers.

Church documents, issues of doctrine, and liturgical rubrics give women spiritual heartburn…”

Surely, the diocese can find someone better to speak to the congregations.
